Our Philosophy

Jim Whittaker was the first American to climb Everest. He is also the founder of R.E.I. and the former Chairman of Magellan, Global Positioning Systems. We recommend his book A Life On The Edge to all of our clients because we share his views of risk and the importance of team accomplishment.

The Clement Group (CG) works with clients that are focused on "extreme" achievement in business. Our collaboration does not defend the status quo — it is the foundation of reaching a new height — pushing our abilities and those of our client's organization to the front edge of what is possible.

Business for us is an exercise in excellence. As described in a passage of Jim Whittaker's book, taking on extreme challenges "has nothing to do with thrill-seeking. Why do we do this? Certainly it is not about purposefully taking on needless risk or putting yourself and investors in harms way. It is precisely the opposite. We carefully measure and quantify our challenge. We place strategic focus on creating shareholder value by diligently employing strict processes and statistical measurement. These tools mitigate risk and add predictability and stability to a venture. They become the pitons, ropes and carabiners of business.

We also believe that the ultimate safety device is a strong team to rope together. The team is comprised of the member’s strengths and weaknesses. Once you tie-in, every member's strength and weakness becomes an attribute of the entire team. The teams that time and again can surmount large obstacles are the ones that combine drive with experience, pragmatism and the technical knowledge needed to create a successful team.
